Sidekick is a TSR (terminate and stay resident) Personail Information Management (PIM) program. After being started it sits in the background watching your keystrokes as you run other programs from the DOS command prompt. When you enter a special key sequence (CTRL-ALT is the default) the current program is suspended and a menu pops up giving you access to a text editor, personal calendar, ASCII table, etc. For more information, check the Wikipedia article on "Borland Sidekick".

SideKick for DOS, a memory-resident program that wisely adopted the WordStar interface for moving the cursor, was a suite of utilities that included a calculator, a word-processor, a calendar, and a wonderful outliner. I used it for years and miss its elegant simplicity.

A calculator, calendar, and several other useful gadgets. Sidekick ran as a TSR (terminate and stay resident). This allowed you to pop up sidekick while you were inside of another application. Remember, DOS was a single-tasking OS. This was pretty cool for the time.
